HARMFUL effects of OBESITY in pet dogs & cats

Pet dogs and cats being overweight or obese has become a global phenomenon in recent times. Studies report different numbers but majority of them say that more than 50% of pet dogs and cats are either overweight or obese.

Pets that are overweight generally have shorter lifespans. Similar to humans pets that are overweight for a long period of time have a significantly higher risk to several diseases such as diabetes, osteoarthritis, cardiovascular disease, and even some cancers.

We will be creating a series of videos addressing obesity in pets and simple methods to overcome this problem.

Blueberries for diabetics

Can people with diabetes include blueberries in their diet safely? Definitely yes!

1 Cup of blueberries weighing 148 grams contain only about 15 grams of sugars. Blueberries fall under the category of low Glycemic Index foods with the score of 53 out of 100. Hence, they do not raise your blood sugar rapidly after consumption.

In fact, some research studies report that the bioactive compounds in blueberries can help manage blood glucose levels.

Are tomatoes high in Calories?

Tomatoes, often classified as vegetables in culinary terms, are actually botanically considered fruits. However, when it comes to their Calorie content, tomatoes are one of the lowest among foods.

If we take 100 grams of tomatoes, they provide a mere 20 Calories or 84 kilojoules of energy. This remarkably low-calorie count can be attributed to their high-water content.

In fact, 100 grams of tomatoes contain about 94.5 grams of water, making them an excellent choice for those seeking to manage their weight.

What is the number of Calories in butter?

Butter is a dairy product with a very high calorie count. If we take 100 grams of butter it has about 16 grams of moisture and about 81 grams of fat.

This high level of fat is the reason for the high calorie count of butter. 100 grams of butter contains a whopping 717 Calories of energy (i.e. 3000 kilojoules).

If we look at the energy provided by 1 table spoon of butter (i.e. 14.2 g) it is 102 Calories (426 kJ).
