Nutrition facts & health benefits of roasted turkey

In this post & video I am going to analyse the nutrition facts of roasted turkey and explain some of its health benefits.

Vitamins, minerals & Health benefits

Let us first look at the vitamins present in this food item. Roasted turkey is a good source of majority of the B vitamins.

Let us take 6 ounces of roasted turkey weighing 170 grams as the reference for this video.

It contains 102% daily value of niacin which is 2% more than what an adult needs in a day.

Roasted turkey is an excellent source of other B vitamins such as B12, B6, riboflavin, pantothenic acid and an essential nutrient choline. These vitamins play a vital role in our metabolism.

Roasted turkey is also a good source of several essential minerals.

It contains 92% of the daily value of selenium. Selenium is an essential trace mineral. It is a constituent of selenoproteins that play critical roles in the production of DNA & in protecting cells against oxidative damage. These proteins also play an important role in thyroid hormone metabolism and reproduction.

Zinc, phosphorus and copper are present in this food item in excellent amounts.

Zinc helps our immune system in fighting with viruses & bacteria. The main function of phosphorus is in the formation of bones and teeth. Copper works with iron in helping our body form red blood cells. It also aids in iron absorption.

Roasted turkey is a moderately good source of minerals such as magnesium, iron and potassium.
