Can my dog eat garlic?

April 12, 2022 by Prashanth Cheruku, M.Tech Leave a Comment

Garlic is found in many dishes and is liked by many people across the world. So naturally it may come in contact with pets at home.

Garlic has medicinal effects in humans. But, it is toxic to dogs.

Just 15-30 grams of garlic per kg. body weight of dogs is enough to cause clinically important haematological changes.

Cooking, drying, processing and even spoilage does not eliminate the toxic effect of garlic.

Garlic consumption can result in the destruction of red blood cells in dogs and can lead to anaemia.

Hence, it is a good idea to not feed garlic and other garlic containing products. Dog owners should make sure that foods with garlic should not be accessible to their dogs.
