You might love oranges, but for your cat—they’re a no-go! Citrus fruits like oranges, lemons, and limes contain compounds called essential oils and psoralens. These can cause gastrointestinal upset, vomiting, and even depression in cats.
While a small lick of orange juice may not be lethal, even the smell can cause stress. Their livers lack the enzymes to process citrus oils effectively, making them more vulnerable than dogs. The peel, pith, and seeds are especially dangerous.
Veterinarians strongly advise keeping citrus far from curious paws. If you’re looking for safe treats, consider commercial cat snacks like Temptations or freeze-dried chicken instead.
Always read up and keep those orange slices to yourself!
